10 Questions With Sam Morgan

1. How would you sum up your expertise?

Before joining Mole Street, I was a software engineer, building SaaS applications across various industries. My expertise spans full-stack development, focusing on creating robust front-end solutions. This means I’ve developed solutions that cover the entire spectrum—from user interfaces and user experience design to back-end systems like databases, APIs, and CI/CD pipelines.

At Mole Street, I bring deep knowledge of building complex front-end applications, leading and mentoring development teams, establishing development standards and best practices, and driving the entire product development lifecycle. My combination of technical expertise and leadership skills enables me to bridge the gap between technical execution and business impact effectively.

2. What type of work do you lead at Mole Street? 

As an Engineering Manager, I focus on maturing our software engineering practices and fostering a high-performing development team to scale and elevate the quality of our technical services. I’m dedicated to creating an environment where everyone can do their best work together.

This involves refining our development processes, supporting developers in their career growth, and ensuring our work aligns with other parts of the business—like consulting, implementation, and sales. Ultimately, everything I do is in service of building great HubSpot experiences that simplify and enhance our clients’ lives.

3. What types of clients do you support the most?

With my background in product software engineering, I’m especially well-suited to support clients who need custom technical solutions. This includes everything from website builds and back-end integrations to creating unique apps tailored to the HubSpot platform ecosystem.

I’ve been fortunate to work with businesses of all sizes—from startups to established enterprises—across various industries. This diversity has given me a strong understanding of how to align technical solutions with unique business needs and goals, whether it’s translating complex business requirements into technical solutions, improving user experiences, or building scalable systems that grow alongside our clients’ success.

4. What is a current project you’re working on?

Rather than focusing on a single project, my role is centered around building and implementing processes that set our development team and clients up for long-term success across all our projects.

I focus on defining and implementing robust code standards, optimizing source control operations, and enhancing our internal development tooling. Additionally, I’m ensuring our processing integrity aligns with best practices for future SOC 2 compliance efforts, laying the foundation for secure and reliable software development. This work supports our team in delivering high-quality technical solutions and building trust with our clients.

5. What do you enjoy most about your work?

I find it incredibly rewarding to empower others to achieve their goals. As a manager, this looks like removing obstacles, facilitating better communication, improving processes, and supporting career growth. 

This passion also extends to clients, as I enjoy helping them clarify their technical needs and turn their visions into reality. Watching others thrive and reach their potential is the most fulfilling part of my work!

6. What is your superpower?

My superpower is having difficult conversations. Whether addressing a sensitive team dynamic, providing constructive feedback, or navigating challenging client discussions, I approach these moments with empathy, clarity, and a focus on solutions. Open, honest communication is essential for growth, and I strive to turn challenging conversations into opportunities for understanding and progress.

7. What’s one Mole Street value that has special meaning to you? Why?

Accountability stands out to me because it’s the bedrock of trust. When we take ownership of our work and commitments, we create an environment where people feel confident relying on one another. For me, accountability isn’t just about meeting deadlines or fulfilling responsibilities—it’s about being honest, transparent, and proactive, especially when challenges arise. This value fosters a culture of mutual respect and collaboration, which ultimately drives the success of both our team and the clients we serve.

8. What’s inspiring you now?

For the past two years, I’ve been taking painting classes, and it’s reshaped how I look at the world around me. In a world where there never seems to be enough time in the day, it’s easy to overlook all of the wonderful things around us. Taking time to slow down and observe things that I’d previously written off as mundane has added a bit more sparkle (and patience) to my life! 

9. What is one fun fact about you?

I’ve been an avid reader since I was a kid. My 2024 goal was 63 books and I have three to go—luckily I’m in the middle of 3 books, so I’m on track! I dabble in all genres, but fantasy and memoirs have a special place in my heart.
